49ers linebacker Aldon Smith released after recent arrest

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning in Santa Clara County.

The Santa Clara Police Department said the 25-year-old was booked on Friday with a bail of $26,000.

“This organization has tried very hard to help Aldon fight his issues”, an unattributed statement from the 49ers said. Smith’s first arrest was in January 2012 for suspicion of drunk driving but the charge was reduced to reckless driving. Smithmissed five games in the 2013 seasonwhen he voluntarily entered substance-abuse treatment facility following his September 20, drunken-driving accident in San Jose s Silver Creek neighborhood.
