49ers linebacker Aldon Smith released after recent arrest
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning in Santa Clara County.
The Santa Clara Police Department said the 25-year-old was booked on Friday with a bail of $26,000.
“This organization has tried very hard to help Aldon fight his issues”, an unattributed statement from the 49ers said. Being cut is never an easy situation for a player with pride, and Smith is going to feel very embarrassed that this situation has come to the forefront and ended with the team that has stood next to him for so long letting him go. Smith’s first arrest was in January 2012 for suspicion of drunk driving but the charge was reduced to reckless driving. The weapons charges and one of the DUI charges were in connection to a 2012 party at Smith’s residence where he was stabbed.
Smithmissed five games in the 2013 seasonwhen he voluntarily entered substance-abuse treatment facility following his September 20, drunken-driving accident in San Jose s Silver Creek neighborhood.
It appears that Aldon Smith says what happened was not a DUI. Harold has been winning a lot one-on-one battles in training camp pass rush drills.
“You only have a short window in this league, so you just gotta go and do what’s good for your family”, Ginn said of joining the Cardinals. Part of that is locking down players to new contract following the departure of several veterans and Vernon David and Aldon Smith could benefit first. A few of them get themselves in a number of extra conditions that you simply want they did not … Around the time of his restructure, there were some reports that the 49ers would have released him had he not agreed to the deal. He says Smith has been working hard to kick a number of problems he’s had.
Smith additionally was arrested April 13, 2014, at Los Angeles Worldwide Airport. “I think being here (in Carolina) was the best thing for me”.
While Baalke doesn’t know all of the specifics, he has seen Davis’ approach and determination to bouncing back this season under new coach Jim Tomsula.
Smith’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, attended Tuesday’s practice and gave no indication that a contract extension is imminent. “He’s poised to have a very good year”, Baalke added. When he returned to the 49ers, he was asked if he had turned his life around. “And I’m sorry for anybody I let down, and I’m sorry the way this whole thing…”
