Family of MH370 Passengers Stage Protest
“We need the help of the population too”, he said. Malaysia don’t care about us at all.
A spokesman for Australian Transport Minister Warren Truss said in a statement Friday that while a great deal of additional material has been handed to police in Reunion, none appears to have come from the plane. French investigators haven’t yet confirmed that it is from the plane.
Anguished family members have been waiting for news with a mix of anticipation and dread, and some said the first concrete proof of the plane’s fate would help bring closure.
Frustrated by seemingly mixed messages from the Malaysian and French governments over whether debris definitely linked to the missing Boeing 777, the 50-strong group attempted to gain entry to the building to demand an explanation from officials. On Monday, Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency said that $700 million in Najib’s personal bank accounts came from donations, not from a debt-ridden state investment fund. The Paris prosecutor’s office, which is spearheading a French legal inquiry into the crash, later denied there was any fresh debris, before French officials – notoriously cautious when it comes to air accident investigations – again retreated into silence.
Reunion is about 3,700 km (2,300 miles) west of the primary search area off the southwest coast of Australia.
There are indeed real question marks over the way the Malaysian authorities have handled both the search for the plane and the release of information, marred by delay, confusion and apparent self-interest.
MH370, a Boeing 777, disappeared in March last year en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew on board, majority Chinese. We received loads of things recently, but we have absolutely no idea whether or not this is related to the plane.
The wing piece, known as a flaperon, was found on one of La Reunion’s beaches last week. “I believe we should be given a part to play if there has been a breakthrough with the discovery”, Zhang said.
As the ground search continues on Reunion, more debris has been found. That includes a laminated copy of the Koran, written in Jawi, an Arabic alphabet used in Brunei and Malaysia.
France is stepping up the search off Reunion Island for debris from missing Flight MH370 as Malaysia insists its investigators found more objects from a plane on the the Indian Ocean island.
Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said he would seek expert advice before asking Australia, which is leading the underwater search, to broaden search efforts.
He added that the paint colour on the flaperon also matches the airline’s records. “However, we also respect the French authorities decision to conduct further the verification test to prove it was from MH370”. “The expert team strongly feel and confirm that it is MH370”.
“My thoughts go out to them”, he said.
China’s Foreign Ministry has reacted to Malaysia’s confirmation by saying that the result points to a conclusion that the flight crashed.
In any case, a full confirmation of the wing part wasn’t likely to bring total closure for relatives, with the rest of the plane and the bodies still missing. Of course, the rescue work has to be continued.
“We are all in the same direction”, he told CNN.
