Suzuki Baleno set for Frankfurt Motor Show debut
Maruti Suzuki had discontinued the mid-sized sedan Baleno in 2006 and was replaced by the SX4 later on. It seems that the company hasn’t been able to get over it and will be launching a completely revamped model this year.
Translating as “flash” in Italian, Baleno is derived from the iK-2 Concept revealed at Geneva in March and the production-ready model will make its world debut seven months later in Frankfurt.
We’ve told you about the Suzuki iK-2 aka YRA hatchback and said that it will be coming to India soon. However, it is unclear if the company will use the name in India. However, the company believes that product is always the king in the automotive industry. The Baleno will be revealed in full on the 15th September.
Currently, there are no updates by the company, but the video released by Suzuki shows that the auto will be getting features like DRLs, projector headlamps, floating roofline and rear LED taillamp cluster.
According to Suzuki, their new model will provide a spacious interior cabin and will implement new technologies, one of which is the 1.0-liter BOOSTERJET direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine. In India it will go up against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Fiat Punto Evo and Volkswagen Polo.
It has set a target of achieving two million sales annually by 2020.
Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback codenamed YRA will be sold in Europe as the Suzuki Baleno. Share with us in comments below. What are your thoughts about the revamped Baleno?
