Cecil the Lion: Dentist Reportedly Hires Security Firm to Guard Florida Home

That’s an encouraging development in the wake of the intense controversy over Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer, who allegedly lured Cecil the lion from the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe to shoot him with a crossbow, skin him and behead him as a trophy.

Palmer, a life-long big game hunter, returned to the United States before the authorities were aware of the controversy. I hope that people will give the same interest and attention on all endangered animals and express the same anger when they are slaughtered.

The dentist is under investigation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as well as various worldwide agencies.

Muchinguri, a 91-year-old veteran from President Robert Mugabe’s ruling ZANU-PF party, described Cecil – a black-maned lion well-known to foreign tourists in the Hwange National Park – as an “iconic attraction”.

“I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion”, he said in a statement last week.
