Commentators Praise Carly Fiorina’s GOP Debate Performance
She managed the trick of being dismissive of Donald Trump (“I didn’t get a phone call from Bill Clinton …”) while being respectful of his supporters’ concerns.
A 2003 study listed Fiorina as the top example of CEOs who saw big raises while laying off thousands of workers.
The fascination with Trump, a master showman, also fueled projections of record viewership of the debate, hosted by Fox News, Facebook and the Ohio Republican Party at the Quicken Loans Arena.
The “self-made woman” continued to impress during an interview on the MSNBC morning show Friday, even getting applause from a live audience for her plan to reinvigorate the U.S. economy. She gave a biting commentary on Donald Trump.
When asked by The Daily Caller at the Red State Gathering if she was concerned that Trump could be a distraction for her should she make it to the main debate stage with him in the future, Fiorina seemed undeterred from her response. When they made no sense, she argued her points coherently.
While the target was Hillary, few in the room missed that Fiorina’s “stumble before he even gets into the ring” line was directed at Jeb Bush and his recent rhetorical missteps.
Fiorina’s website also says that while she didn’t always make the most popular decisions, they would be proved right.
Still, it was widely believed that she was forced out at HP because she didn’t work well with other executives and was “dictatorial and distant”, said Erik Gordon, a professor at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
Fiorina’s campaign sent out two fundraising appeals touting her performance within hours of the debate’s end, including one showing the 10 men who participated in the prime-time debate with the caption “What’s wrong with this picture?”
Fiorina’s campaign declined on Friday to say if her performance had led to a spike in donations. Trump recoiled, saying “I’ve been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be, based on the way you have treated me”.
Jindal was asked a similar question with Martha MacCallum noting in head to head polling against Hillary Clinton in his home state he comes in short. “Well, so far not”, Fiorina answered.
Hurling a stinging attack, Graham bluntly warned “all Americans who want a better life” to not vote for Clinton. “And he’s not the only one who hasn’t particularly thrown punches effectively at Hillary Clinton“. He isn’t the only prominent politico whose admiration Fiorina secured; immediately after the debate, Chris Wallace and George Will both gave her rave reviews. I just think it’s inappropriate to call people names, who’s ever doing it. And I think all of those names are clearly inappropriate.
As such, looking at how the “stocks” of each candidate fared in PredictIt’s market for the 2016 Republican nomination over the course of the past day is a good way to see how the debates moved the needle.
Fiorina told the crowd that her experience in the private sector and ability to sell conservatism without the baggage of being a long-serving politician set her apart in a field replete with current and former senators and governors.
