Patrick Kane is the Subject of Rape Investigation
On Thursday, when news broke of the investigation, the police chief declined to confirm the investigation and ordered police not to speak publicly.
Patrick Kane, 26, who just led the Chicago Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup victory in June, has allegedly been accused of sexual assault by a woman near his hometown in Upstate New York.
According to the Chicago Tribune, neighbors in Hamburg saw several plainclothes officers with flashlights entering Kane’s home Sunday night. At least one wore gloves and was taking pictures in front of his house. What exactly Kane is being investigated isn’t exactly clear, and the report by the Buffalo News doesn’t really give any hints as to what Kane might have done to warrant the probe. Sources of buffalonews also claimed that local police agencies are now involved in the said investigation.
The Blackhawks also released a statement acknowledging the investigation, but did not provide any details. “At this time we are gathering information and awaiting forensic testing results“.
Paul Cambria Jr., an attorney who has represented Kane in the past, said he is representing Kane but declined to comment on the investigation.
This is not Kane’s first brush with the law.
Kane has seen some legal troubles before in 2009 he was charged following an altercation with a cab driver in Buffalo.
No charges have been filed against Kane, and police are under a strict gag order from superiors not to discuss the investigation.
In May 2012, photographs surfaced of Kane during a drunken party in Madison, Wisconsin. Police searched the Chicago Blackhawks star’s waterfront home on Sunday, looking for evidence. He was not arrested.
Kane has been praised for his off-ice maturity following a turbulent introduction to stardom.
“Everyone has a different path, that’s for sure”. Stuff when I first came in the league, you could kind of do and it wouldn’t be noticed anywhere.
Kane, a three-time Stanley Cup victor, signed an eight-year, $84-million contract last summer that goes into effect during the 2015-16 season.
The Cup, however, is already in western New York, as Blackhawks senior advisor Scotty Bowman hosted the trophy in his East Amherst home Friday.
