Family: Father of toddler killed in West Bank arson has died
Three Israeli soldiers were hurt – two of them seriously – after a Palestinian motorist careered into them at a junction in the West Bank on Thursday just a few miles from where suspected Jewish settlers carried out a deadly arson attack nearly a week ago. Ali’s parents and 4-year-old brother were wounded.
Saed Dawabsheh’s death was also confirmed by Duma’s mayor, Abdel Salam Dawabsheh.
Last month, Israeli police entered Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites, as they clashed with Palestinians angered by Jews’ being granted access to the compound on an annual day of Jewish mourning.
The child’s father, Saad, had been being treated for third-degree burns at an Israeli hospital, where a spokeswoman last week described his condition as “critical”.
“As regards Mr Allan’s hunger strike, any solution must take into account the need to protect his moral and physical integrity”, Mr de Maio said in the ICRC statement. The four who were killed are extended family members of the Abu Naqeira family.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rightist coalition weathered a lengthy parliamentary debate on Thursday, with 46 politicians in favour and 40 opposed in the 120-seat Knesset.
“I am full of honour and pride, this is the first time I have ever visited Gaza and I can’t find the words to describe my feelings”, Al-Ahly forward Khaldon al-Halman said. “This is a terror attack”.
In recent years, the United Nations Mine Action Service has worked in Gaza along with local security teams clearing unexploded munitions left over from a series of military confrontations with Israel since 2009.
“A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit southern Israel”, a statement said.
The army said that it “scored a direct hit” against its intended target.
Israel has come under criticism from the Palestinian Football Association for restricting players’ movements.
