Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane accused of rape by woman, 26
There has been a lot of noise but few details about the police investigation of Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane in his hometown of Hamburg, New York.
Kane is the target of an investigation by the Hamburg, N.Y. police department regarding an alleged sexual assault over the past weekend, The Buffalo News reports.
A manager at Mickey Rat’s Beach Club in Evans tells 7 Eyewitness News that Hamburg Police called the bar to see if Patrick Kane was there this past Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Blackhawks tweeted a statement to Chicago Sun-Times with regard to Kane’s situation. “At this period of time we are actually to inform myself and anticipating letterheads trying positive results”. A brush with the law is also not new for Kane as he was reportedly arrested in August 2009 for assaulting a cab driver. Kane also had to pay $125 in court costs and was ordered to stay out of trouble for a year under a conditional discharge.
Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane celebrates after defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Final series in Chicago.
“Well as far as them making no comment to the press, if it was your regular “Joe Blow” or an average person the press would have no interest in it whatsoever so I think they’re handling it in the same way as anybody else” said John Elmore.
Kane’s been in the spotlight since Chicago selected him with the first overall pick in the 2007 draft.
Kane, who grew up in close by South Buffalo, gained his third Stanley Cup championship with the Blackhawks in June.
Neighbors said three unmarked police cars descended upon Kane’s lakefront property Sunday night and several plainclothes officers entered his home using flashlights. The Blackhawks won it all again in 2013, with Kane earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
When he was asked by USA Today to comment on any investigation of Kane, Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett told reporter Erik Brady that he could not comment on it. “I cannot even confirm there is an investigation”, Wickett said.
Kane is scheduled to have his day with the Stanley Cup on Saturday in Buffalo.
While it’s not clear when – or if – Patrick Kane could be charged, police in Buffalo have implied that the process may take quite some time.
