One held for firing at Wasim Akram’s car
The Sindh Police have made a development in connection with a firing incident involving Pakistan cricket team’s former captain Wasim Akram as an accused is arrested here on Friday. Police is on the lookout for his employer, who is still at large.
Akram, considered one of the greatest one-day global cricketers of all time, told reporters that no one was hurt in the shooting which occurred as he was on his way to the city’s National Stadium where he is holding a bowling camp.
He also said that the arrested suspect is the driver of the vehicle which hit Akram’s auto on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the heated exchange which led to shooting afterwards.
“He definitely looked like an official”, he said of the shooter. According to reports in the Pakistan media, a shaken but alert Akram called the police helpline and registered a complaint after the attack.
“It is apparently an incident of road rage”, PA quotes Akram as saying.
The 49-year-old denied receiving any threat prior to the incident and alleged that a government official, who was inside the vehicle, attacked him.
A case was registered at Bahdurabad police station on behalf of Akram against three unidentified persons.
“What I can confirm to you is that it was not a major accident and it only came to light because it involved Wasim Akram“, he continued. He has taken 414 Test and 502 One-Day worldwide (ODI) wickets in an global career spanning two decades.
