North rail service delayed after person fatally struck by train at
There are delays on the Waterbury branch of Metro-North because of police activity near Cos Cob.
The scene Friday, as a Metro North train struck a pedestrian at the Cos Cob train station. Officials said they believed she was trying to cross to the platform on the opposite side.
An 28-year-old Connecticut woman was killed by a Metro-North express train in Greenwich, Connecticut, on Friday after stepping onto the tracks to try to retrieve a dropped personal item, a railroad spokeswoman said.
“The engineer did sound the horn while going through”, Daniels said. That train was not due to stop at the Cos Cob station, she said. Witnesses told officials that the victim had dropped her wallet and went onto the tracks to retrieve it. Her identity is not being released at this time. It was then when the Metro North train struck the female.
Metro-North is reporting delays of 15 to 20 minutes on the New Haven line.
After the accident, the passengers on the New Haven-bound train were transferred to another train and were on their way shortly after 10 a.m., Daniels said.
GFD reported via Twitter about 9:40 a.m.: “Units looking to confirm power is shut off to tracks and overhead power lines”.
