Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd has surgery on fingers
Michael Floyd suffered three broken fingers on his left hand in Wednesday’s training camp practice. Arians said Floyd’s hand landed awkwardly on the ball, leading to three dislocated fingers.
“Surgery went well as expected”. Floyd’s best year came in 2013 with 1,041 yards and five touchdowns.
The Cardinals will rely on Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown as their top receivers while Floyd is out of the lineup.
The Cardinals drafted Floyd out of Notre Dame with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2012 draft.
In the meantime, Arians said Floyd’s injury is an opportunity for some of the Cardinals’ younger receivers lower on the depth chart to earn additional playing time. With a capable replacement in line for the one game Floyd might have to miss with dislocated fingers, the goals the Cardinals have for this season can absolutely remain in place.
The Cardinals made the playoffs last year finishing with an 11-5 record in the regular season, but he fell to the Carolina Panthers, 27-16, in the wild card round. Of course, it didn’t help last year’s numbers that quarterback Carson Palmer and, later, his backup Drew Stanton were sidelined with injuries.
Because of its uniqueness, Arians couldn’t put a timetable on the wide receiver’s return.
“You know, Mike, he’s got a real soft heart”, Fitzgerald said, joking with reporters. Floyd previously had 66 catches for 1054 yards the previous season and now he could miss time early on.
