New Orleans Pelicans extend contract offer to guard Jason Terry, report says
Veteran guard Jason Terry, who apparently wasn’t pleased with the free-agent offer he got from the Rockets, is mulling over a proposition from the New Orleans Pelicans, Fox 26 in Houston reported Friday. Now Kendrick Perkins, 30, holds that honor.
Jason Terry said he was close to re-signing with the Rockets, but that was also around the time they renounced him. The Pelicans’ offer, on the other hand, can be worth $600,000 more than the minimum contract because they can offer a biannual exception.
The Rockets traded for point guard Ty Lawson in July, and also signed shooting guard Marcus Thornton to join mainstays James Harden and Patrick Beverly in the rotation. It’s unlikely the hard cap – even with Terry in the fold – would significantly restrict New Orleans to the degree it would Houston.
Terry played in 77 games last season, his 16th in the league. Terry would bring a veteran presence to a team that largely had their first taste of the playoffs last season and would be a solid backup behind either Gordon, Holiday or Evans.
The difference between the two offers Terry has reportedly received is not that much money so it still seems likely that he will go back to the Rockets. He averaged 7.0 points and 1.9 assistant per game in 21.3 minutes.
