Guy Martin Dundrod Circuit crash: Video footage emerges of high-speed
Lincolnshire TV star Guy Martin has undergone emergency surgery after breaking his back in a bike accident. His Tyco BMW smashed into a foam barrier and projected into the air, crashing hard to the ground and stopping close to the left side of the road. But Martin must now undergo a back operation, having broken vertebrae as well as ribs and his sternum, in the Dundrod 150 race on Thursday night. Just waiting on him coming out of surgery.
A video has since emerged showing the moment he was flung off his bike and sent tumbling.
Guy was feeling really comfortable on the BMW Motorrad machinery this week, and his double pole position and a best lap of 133.176mph during last night’s Dundrod 150 race, confirmed to us that he had a great chance of adding to his impressive tally around Dundrod.
His Tyco BMW team initially thought Martin had escaped the incident unscathed before the full extent of his injuries were revealed.
He was taken to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment and will play no part in today’s Ulster Grand Prix races.
“There’s no question that Guy’s injuries could have been worse otherwise, plus the removal of the bank also prevented his bike from bouncing back into the path of another rider”.
He also raced for the Eastington-based Smiths Triumph team in the Supersport class of the Isle of Man TT this year.
