Man City manager Pellegrini given extra year to 2017
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has signed a new two-year contract, the club has confirmed.
Everton endured a frustrating 2014/15 season, when they failed to build on their fifth-place finish from the year before and, after flirting with the relegation zone, ending the campaign in 11th. Guardiola is in the final year of his contract with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
But the Chilean coach insists he knows what his masters at the Eithad are planning and is relaxed about the future.
The 61-year-old’s previous deal was due to end next year but is now expected to remain at the Etihad stadium for further 12 months.
“I appreciate what Edin did for the team and also for me because we won two trophies together”.
It may limit, if not completely remove, the incessant talk of Pep Guardiola taking over as Blues manager.
“He’s linked with this team more because of the connection he has with Txiki and Ferran”.
Raheem has a chance of winning the Premier League at City.
“Look at Chelsea last season”. Ancelotti supposedly had a pre-contract signed and Jurgen Klopp had also a contract. English players are more expensive here as they are fighting with all the other nationalities. But if you ask me, of course I think I can continue working here for the long term. The support the club gives me is important.
“The decision was very easy as soon as I knew (that City wanted me)”.
If this is the case, there is the concern that he will struggle for backing from the club’s hierarchy and whether his heart will truly be in the job knowing he is on borrowed time. It is always important to analyse why we concede 38 goals and more than 35 per cent were from set-pieces.
“For me, a good season with a big team is that you must win a title [trophy]”, Pellegrini said.
“I’m really excited as it’s every boy’s dream to play in the Champions League“.
You can get enhanced odds of 8/1 on Chelsea to win the title – or 20/1 on Man Utd or Arsenal.
City’s main business during the summer has been the signing of England’s Raheem Sterling in a club record £49m deal from Liverpool.
“But we have been up there now for a few seasons, so United now have a lot more respect for us”, Silva said. “There are many things we expect to improve this season”.
