First cumulative update for Windows 10 available
In this new era of Windows as a Service (WaaS), Microsoft has released its first cumulative update for Windows 10, which some are calling Service Release 1 (tongue in cheek, of course). You’ll no doubt be aware that Google go through your emails to get keywords for targeted adverts, while Apple’s Siri and Google Now collect data to personalise responses. Microsoft’s Knowledge Base article simply provides a list of the files that got changed, but no descriptions of what changed.
It also added that the data is not being collected to serve ads.
The company’s investment into buying Nokia did not feel like a good call and it remains to be seen what Microsoft’s next move is going to be.
A “metered connection” tells Windows 10 that your bandwidth is being billed by the megabyte, or that you’re on an otherwise expensive wireless connection, so it disables systems that might harm your wallet. Are you looking forward to the Windows 10 update? A cumulative update (KB3081424) for Windows 10 is now live and is a collection of fixes and under-the-hood improvements which are said to improve overall performance. So if you want to show something on your webpage to a friend, you can simply circle it and email it to him.
Setting your system to “metered connection” will automatically disable Windows 10’s automatic update functionality.
I’ve asked Microsoft for more information as to what’s in today’s update and whether the company is planning to deliver similar updates weekly.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and Jen, who works for Microsoft, stated that they are looking into the matter and that a fix is on the way.
Flexibility: It is not rocket science, as many OEMs have had this feature ever since convertibles started becoming popular, but Windows 10 recognises the fact that it is running on unconventional devices. (Windows generally picks the middle of the night to apply patches.). If you’ve been expecting the Lumia 940 and 940XL to make an appearance, you may be out of luck, but don’t despair as Microsoft may skip them and go straight to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL instead.
