Minnesota athletics head resigns over inappropriate texts
Deputy athletic director and senior women’s administrator Beth Goetz was named interim athletic director.
“At a recent university event, I had entirely too much to drink”, Teague wrote in the text.
Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague resigned Friday morning amid allegations of sexual harassment that includes inappropriate texts. He says he’s embarrassed by his actions and apologizes.
“I behaved badly towards nice people and sent truly inappropriate texts”, Teague said.
Kaler is expected to give more information at a 12:15 p.m. press conference, and we will have more coverage throughout the day.
Former VCU Athletic Director Norwood Teague resigned his post at the University of Minnesota on Friday, according to the university.
However, he did reveal that Teague could be hired by the university as a consultant earning $285 per hour.
Update: The University has released several documents from their investigation, including a copy of text messages Teague sent to a woman. “He realized his resignation and entering into a treatment plan for his alcohol problem was his best way forward”.
My focus is to ensure the wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and visitors across the University system. “While I’m proud of my career accomplishments, I want to stop and take a look at my life and alcohol issues”.
Another woman who complained about Teague’s behavior that night also said she felt Teague acted inappropriately when he rubbed her back and poked her side.
Despite the negative publicity surrounding Teague’s resignation Kaler hopes to move forward with fundraising. Teague was also forbidden from any additional contract with the women.
“In addition, you will not contact either of the two women who were subject to your advances either in person or through electronic or other written means unless professionally required”.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to leave the University of Minnesota”, he told reporters.
Teague’s legacy in his short tenure at the school might be the fact that he supported head football coach Jerry Kill as he was going through a tough time and dealing with seizures.
