RedState Retracts Trump Invitation After Megyn Kelly Comments
“Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?” “Blood coming out of her wherever”, Trump recalled of Kelly. The huge ratings spike did lead to a bump in polls for Trump, but Fox News commentator and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Charles Krauthammer says that Trump came undone during the debate.
The real estate mogul had been scheduled to appear at a special tailgate at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta at the close of RedState Gathering on Saturday night. But it still had Governor Deal on the agenda and it did not have Donald Trump on it. Obviously, it wasn’t the final.
“Attacking veterans, Hispanics and women demonstrates a serious lack of character and basic decency, and his comments distract from the serious issues facing our country”, Perry said in a statement.
Trump also refused to rule out a third-party presidential bid Thursday night should he lose the Republican nomination, though he repeated Friday that is only an option.
After his Saturday morning speech, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee defended Megyn Kelly, calling her a “remarkable woman” who shouldn’t be tangled with. Trump told reporters, “The questions to me were not nice, I didn’t think they were appropriate, and I think Megyn behaved very badly personally”.
Rosie O’Donnell is not going to let an insult from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump go unchecked – but she’s not going to stoop to his level either. “Stand with @MegynKelly”.
Trump also got the boot from the RedState Gathering.
I think there is no way to otherwise interpret Mr. Trump’s comment.
In comments made after the hustings, Trump suggested Kelly had given him a hard time on statements he has made about women in the past, because she was menstruating. And you know, you can see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever, but she was, in my opinion, she was off base. “Just got on w/thought”. He later cited his impatience for “political correctness” as justification for his many remarks. “We’ll now be doing another campaign stop at another location”.
In response, Trump’s campaign calls Erickson “weak and pathetic”.
In the meantime, Trump will be sitting out today’s grassroots event. Trump said, as he has said before, that he contributes to politicians including Hillary Clinton and in return gets what he wants from them.
Erickson said that doesn’t at all resemble the Trump situation today.
Stone, however, told the station that he quit, and showed a resignation letter he said he gave Trump stating that, “the current controversies involving personalities and provocative media fights have reached such a high volume that it has distracted attention from your platform and overwhelmed your core message”.
Trump largely dismissed Kelly’s question at the debate, and in a series of interviews Friday on network television, the billionaire businessman questioned whether he had actually used the words as Kelly had alleged.
