Marseille coach Bielsa resigns after French league opener

Marcelo Bielsa has announced his resignation as head coach of Olympique Marseille this Saturday, August 8th, 2015.

“I have just resigned from my job as OM coach“, Argentine Bielsa was quoted as saying by Marseille on their Twitter feed. “I’m going to return to my country”.

At roughly 5 pm ET Satruday, Bielsa announced he was resigning from his post as Marseille’s first-team manager, effectively immediately.

“I haven’t spoken with anyone in the Mexico federation and that is sufficient to consider hypothetical and I never talk about hypothetical situations”, Bielsa said at a news conference Thursday.

“At Friday’s press conference, everything was fine, it was all positive”.

“We had reached an agreement on a contract extension for 2016-2017, which was missing just a signature”, he wrote in his letter. “He was someone that was important to the club and the team”. “We respect his choice”.
