Jays pitcher Aaron Sanchez, Manger John Gibbons suspended after Sunday incident
A pregame meeting couldn’t lift Minnesota’s slumping offense out of its recent malaise.
Although not so electric, Estrada got the job done Tuesday, holding the Minnesota Twins to two hits and one run over 6 2/3 innings in the Blue Jays’ 3-1 victory. Gibbons said the right-handed pitcher was consulting with his agent and Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos about the appeal.
Three runs was more than enough for Marco Estrada, who went back to dominating after the rough forth inning.
“No, I mean everyone sees what he does on the mound but he’s an incredible person”, Chamberlain said. Yeah, I think this David Price guy is going to do just fine in Toronto. Kevin Pillar grounded out to third base with two out, but Trevor Plouffe’s throw was slightly off the mark, forcing first baseman Joe Mauer off the bag.
Over the past few days, and particularly on the weekend, “our daily sales volumes (tickets we sell on a day-to-day to basis for all future games) were more than quadruple what we normally sell”, Jason Diplock, the Jays vice-president of ticket sales and service, said in an email. Colorado’s Kyle Kendrick has surrendered 26. Blue Jays 2, Twins 1. “They’re a tough group to navigate”.
“It makes my job easier when I don’t have to try to do too much“, Tulowitzki said. “There’s a lot of guys who can come through and hit home runs at any point in time”. Do they not care at all about production at the plate?
And some infielders don’t want to straddle the base on a tag play – they might get spiked.
Twins: RHP Phil Hughes (10-6, 4.11 ERA) has won six straight decisions and has not lost since June 8 against Kansas City. Toronto got on the scoreboard right away as its second batter, Josh Donaldson, belted a 437-foot solo shot to left-centre field. Meanwhile, Volquez appeared to be incensed by the reaction of Donaldson on the hits he took on Sunday. Darren O’Day and Zach Britton are very quietly as good as just about any setup man/closer combination in baseball.
Torii Hunter cut Toronto’s lead to 2-1 in the fourth.
The Blue Jays may have had the best trade deadline of all-time. Gibbons was ejected after Tulowitzki’s hit, but came back on the field in the eighth inning when a fight broke out between the two teams. Following the incident, the Blue Jays suffered yet another perceived physical attack as Royals reliever Ryan Madison hit the forearm of newly acquired Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the seventh inning.
The commissioner’s office announced Tuesday that Toronto reliever Aaron Sanchez has been suspended three games for intentionally throwing at Alcides Escobar in the eighth.
So when we see Lorenzo Cain slam into a wall to make a catch, or Mike Moustakas go over a railing to snag a pop fly or Aaron Sanchez protect his teammates at his own expense, we ought to appreciate what we’re seeing – not every ballplayer will do those things.
“I know we didn’t have a lot of chances because I didn’t put many signs on all night”.
Then you have the Blue Jays, who made some of the biggest moves in all of Major League Baseball.
RHP Tyler Duffey did not have his passport with him when the Twins promoted him from Triple-A Rochester to start Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
