Guess who’s back – Clarkson, Hammond, May sign Amazon Prime deal
It has since been confirmed Chris Evans is to take over the popular programme, but Jeremy isn’t missing out at it was revealed this morning that he will present with his pals once again on a show for Amazon Prime. The new show will air sometime early next year and be produced by former Top Gear executive Andy Wilman, an old school friend of Clarkson’s who is credited with revamping the format and turning it into the world’s most successful factual TV show.
Of joining Amazon, Clarkson says, “I feel like I’ve climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship”, which is some pretty good shade to throw at the BBC.
Jeremy Clarkson was fired by the BBC at the end of March for physically attacking and verbally assaulting show producer Oisin Tymon.
The three dropped hints about a new show during their recent live tour in South Africa, where Hammond suggested that they would soon be working from America. Oh yes. I have already been there.
“We have become part of the new age of smart TV”.
Vice president of Amazon Prime Video EU Jay Marine said: “Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen. Apparently they want us to make a vehicle show”, he tweeted. “Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our ground-breaking original shows”.
The new program is planned to rival the BBC’s Top Gear and will be broadcast on Amazon’s on-demand TV service after the trio opted not to partner with either ITV or Netflix.
Under the terms of the deal, Clarkson, Hammond and May will be committed to three seasons with filming set to begin in the autumn.
