Donald Trump under fire over ‘menstruation’ jibe at Megyn Kelly

In her opening question to Ben Carson, Kelly questioned the former neurosurgeon’s readiness to be president, citing his previous unawareness of governmental affairs.

Erickson, who invited Kelly to replace Trump at the conference, said he revoked Trump’s invitation because he did not “want someone on stage who gets a hostile question from a lady and his first inclination is to imply it was hormonal”. It just was wrong.

He said in a blogpost: “I have tried to give a great deal of latitude to Donald Trump in his run for the presidency”.

Trump’s campaign was incensed – and unbowed.

Despite the ratings bonanza and television audience of 24 million viewers, some political analysts say Trump’s rivals missed a golden opportunity to score points with women.

Yet Trump remains a towering presence in the 17-candidate field, and his supporters at the RedState event – along with several other uncommitted attendees – said the latest flap simply reaffirms why his uncompromising approach appeals to voters who are disgusted with conventional politicians, including those in the GOP.

Later that week, when Erickson appeared on Kelly’s show, she tore into him for his sexist comments: “I will start with you, Erick”.

“You once told a contestant on “Celebrity Apprentice” it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees”, Kelly said. That description deviated from the telephone interview that aired.

It was not immediately clear where that new campaign stop will be.

In a statement, Ohio Gov. John Kasich said “everyone deserves respect and dignity, whether they agree with you or not”.

An exasperated Mike Huckabee had enough of the seemingly endless Trump questions. “Now I’m here running for president”.

“Yes, I’m sure it was”, said Trump.

“His comment was inappropriate”, said Erickson. When Kelly said Trump’s comments had gone beyond O’Donnell and asked about his use of such insults on Twitter, Trump replied that he didn’t “have time for total political correctness”.

Huckabee, even in his frustration Saturday, said Trump has “tapped into an anger” among the electorate.

He added that he’s always said nice things about her, but he threatened to be less kind to her in retaliation.

Defending his comments in a post on RedState a few days later, Erickson wrote that “women as primary breadwinners does make raising children harder, increasing the likelihood of harm in the development of children”.
