Marcelo Bielsa resigns from Olympique Marseille post as Mexican national team

Bielsa, 60, announced his resignation during his postgame press conference.

Olympique Marseille’s Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa has said he is committed to stay with the club, rebuffing reports suggesting his willingness to be the next coach of the Mexican national team.

Labrune added: “I have tonight difficulty understanding how a simple meeting Wednesday on technical details of the contract with the attorney of the shareholder and my CEO can be the cause of this sudden departure, while all his wishes had been fulfilled”.

At roughly 5 pm ET Satruday, Bielsa announced he was resigning from his post as Marseille’s first-team manager, effectively immediately.

“I can not accept this situation of instability”.

OM’s Twitter account carried several quotes from Bielsa’s press conference.

Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was stunned.

“We had reached an agreement on a contract extension for 2016-2017, which was missing just a signature”, he wrote in his letter. On Thursday everythign seemed positive and today we receive this huge blow. “But we respect his decision”.
