49ers release linebacker following DUI, hit-and-run arrest
Smith was attempting to park his vehicle, described as either a large SUV or truck, and allegedly crashed into an adjacent parked auto that was unoccupied, according to Clarke. He allegedly then left the area without reporting the accident.
Smith received second chance after second chance with the Niners before they finally had enough following his fifth run-in with the law. Suffice to say, these incidents have forced Smith to miss quite a few games on the gridiron.
Smith can also be facing significant jail time for violating his probation; he was not allowed to consume alcohol.
Aldon Smith had been previously involved in unlawful acts.
The story from TMZ stated that it all happened during a 49ers practice on Tuesday (August 4), and that players had to pull them apart.
“Yeah, I heard about it”, Miller said of Smith’s release.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin has admitted that he is hopeful that Aldon Smith will be able to receive the right help for his personal problems. “I apologize to everybody I did let down and I apologize for how it all played out. It will work out how it’s supposed to work out”.
But for the 49ers, this has to be about more than what Smith is capable of doing on the field.
Coach got up there and spoke very well on behalf of the organization and certainly on behalf of Aldon. “And, I think, the best thing of it all is that he has the support needed here, even though he’s no longer a member of the team”.
From the team prospective, coach Jim Tomsula claims the team needs 100% of Smith’s committment in regards to football. “This is a day that doesn’t have anything to do about football”.
After another DUI arrest, the San Francisco 49ers have elected to part ways with former NFL Defensive MVP, Aldon Smith. Were not anxious about football. “This has nothing to do with football”, Tomsula told reporters.
The incident comes at an inopportune time for Smith.
In spring 2014, the 49ers exercised their 2015 option for Smith, but Baalke made it clear they would be no-nonsense regarding his off-field issues. During his rookie season in 2011, Smith had 14 sacks and two forced fumbles. As Smith opened the door of the SUV he was driving, it hit the same auto. I’m just more comfortable, to be honest with you. Go get the help.
The denouement of Smith’s life has yet to be written, but let’s just say the actions foreshadowing it aren’t pointing toward a positive outcome. Neither man has Smith’s raw physical talent, but Aaron Lynch or Ahmad Brooks will do fine in his spot.
The 49ers caught a small break throughout the ordeal, as Smith’s restructured $9.75 million contract was not fully guaranteed upfront, rather it would have been paid throughout the season.
