Al Shabaab Suspected in Somali Hotel Blast That Killed 4 People

Al Shabaab, which wants to impose its strict interpretation of Islam on Somalia, killed a lawmaker, his bodyguard and an official from the prime minister’s office on two attacks on Saturday.
The group said the suicide bomber had attacked the hotel “in retaliation for the killing of dozens of innocent civilians” they claimed had died during attacks this week by Ethiopian forces against Shabaab bases in southern Somalia.
The Chinese Embassy was partially destroyed in the blast and staff members had been injured, Xinhua said, without confirming any deaths among the Chinese staff.

Lu said that China has lodged representations with Somalia in Mogadishu and Beijing separately. The UN Security Council also says it condemns the bombing “in the strongest terms”.
