Samsung engineers payments for TV
Samsung Pay on TV can be linked to a debit or credit card, or even aPayPal account, meaning users then only have to enter a four digit PIN number every time they want to make a purchase, removing the need to fill in lengthy forms.
The Galaxy device maker assures the payment service has an enhanced security, so users are guaranteed their personal information is secure.
Samsung Pay on TV makes use of magnetic secure transmission and Near Field Communication technologies so it will be compatible with POS terminals.
Samsung hasn’t yet announced a date for availability of its TV-based payment service, but the company said it will initially be offered in 32 countries.
Samsung confirmed that the platform was made from scratch, specifically for its smart television units. Samsung Pay on TV is mainly a way to store payment information. However, it is not like the tap-and-go system that Samsung is trying to introduce with smartphones.
Once users have registered, they just have to press the “Pay Now” button, and enter their PIN. Users have to set up the service by using their credit card, debit card or PayPal account.
Samsung has also equipped its TVs with the capability to perform in-app purhases across a range of popular game titles. Payment methods and features will be limited, depending on the model and location of the user. In the US and South Korea the service can be out there very quickly, whereas in Europe, Samsung continues to be working with banks and companions to convey it there, the corporate reported final week. Samsung also has a new virtual Secure Keyboard for protecting that information when you’re typing it in. However, more games, content and in-app purchases will be added soon, along with other “exciting enhancements”.
