2 dead, 3 hurt, including 2 officers, in shootout

GASTONIA- Gaston County Police are investigating a shooting that killed two and sent three people to the hospital.

“Officers were confronted with a suspect, who was armed, that suspect engaged officers, two officers were shot, they have non-life-threatening injuries, the suspect shooter was shot and killed by officers”, he said.

Gaston County Police are trying to figure out what led a gunman to allegedly kill a man, wound a woman, get into a gunfight with police and wound two officers with non life threatening injuries.

Officers then located a victim who’d been fatally shot at a separate location in the neighborhood, the statement said.

The injured woman was also treated Caromont Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover. Emergency personnel later found the dead father in his home and the wounded woman in a third house, police said. He would not confirm the relationships between the two men and woman, but did say the two men were not related to one another.

“We heard about 10 to 15 rounds shot”. They were both shot in the “lower extremities”, Ramey said.

County Commissioner Tracy Philbeck tweeted, asking the public to keep the officers in their prayers.

I know from the last 18 months police have been under the microscope. The gunman shot a father while the victim’s son was speaking with a 9-1-1 dispatcher, according to the Gaston County Police Department.
