Planned Parenthood could lose funding over recent controversial recordings
In a complaint filed on Friday in federal court in San Francisco, the nonprofit National Abortion Federation (NAF), a nonprofit organization representing abortion providers, accused the Center for Medical Progress and its founder, David Daleiden, of infiltrating and recording its private meetings. He also asserted that the Center for Medical Process has followed all applicable laws throughout the course of its investigation and is prepared to fight for its First Amendment rights following an effort to suppress the videos.
Put on the defensive by the release of the videos, Planned Parenthood says it receives only reimbursements for costs of providing tissue donated by women, and that it has done nothing illegal or improper.
Orrick said absent a temporary restraining order, the federation would likely suffer irreparable injury “in the form of harassment, intimidation, violence, invasion of privacy, and injury to reputation”.
The undercover video released Thursday shows Dr. Savita Ginde, vice president of Denver-based Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, discussing prices of aborted fetal remains, the center says. In order to have a nationally accredited ob-gyn program, the school must offer training for all aspects of the field, including abortions, whether elective or medically necessary, said MUSC spokeswoman Heather Woolwine. “And at a time of our choosing, we will release more damning evidence of the abortion cartel’s illegal, ghastly, and repugnant butchery”. Instead, they are a grand scheme by “extremists” to block access to abortion.
The videos have ignited passions on both sides of the abortion debate and sparked a potential showdown in Congress, where Republicans are increasingly focused on cutting off funding for Planned Parenthood.
Orrick on Friday also blocked the Center for Medical Progress from releasing the dates of any of the National Abortion Federation’s future meetings and the names and addresses of its members.
Nonetheless, the Republican has been a supporter of Planned Parenthood during his three terms.
But the atrocities have grown as more videos are released from the Center for Medical Progress.
“The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today released the findings of its investigation of Planned Parenthood“.
Jenny Black, president of the Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, said South Carolina’s anti-abortion legislators are using the videos to advance their own political agendas.
Interestingly enough, and despite that the pro-life group responsible for the videos has made all of its unedited footage available online, certain corners of the press have appeared more than eager to repeat Planned Parenthood’s “selectively edited” defense.
Women Betrayed, which protested on Tuesday, wants to pull federal funding from Planned Parenthood.
