Another day of cancelled Bali flights
Ngurah Rai worldwide Airport in Bali has had to close again because of ash clouds from the eruption of Mount Raung in neighboring East Java province.
Virgin Australia has cancelled all of its flights in and out of Denpasar Airport on Sunday.
Winds have been blowing the ash in an unfavourable direction throughout the weekend, with the same wind conditions forecast for Monday, the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre said.
Forecasters have warned that westerly winds could engulf the airport making it extremely hazardous for planes to attempt a landing. “I cancelled our family holiday (to Bali) the other week”.
Virgin has grounded flights on Saturday too, while Jetstar has done the same on Saturday morning but will make a decision on the afternoon once there is more information. The ash cloud is expected to engulf parts of the island for several days.
“We are reviewing options for additional flights from Bali to Australia to get our passengers moving as soon as possible”, Jetstar said. Standing atalmost 3,332 metres (10,932 feet) above sea level, is the tallest volcano in its cluster.
