Seattle Seahawks, Kam Chancellor Unlikely To Strike New Deal
Kam Chancellor’s holdout from Seattle Seahawks’ training camp extended to a sixth day on Wednesday, but no end is in sight. Kam was one of the first players that we drafted that were able to reward with one year left on his contract. Chancellor is looking for a raise, pure and simple.
One report from Josina Anderson of ESPN says that Chancellor could holdout into the regular season if they are unable to reach a middle ground between now and then.
The thing is, the Seahawks understand that, too.
But Chancellor isn’t easy to replace, for reasons beyond the spectacular plays he makes and the pain he endures, such as the torn MCL he shrugged off in last year’s Super Bowl. So this is the only opportunity that most of us have, that we can get, you know, to set up our family for generations to come.
“Here we have to keep moving and he knows that’s what we are called to do and so we’re going to do that”, Carroll said. Schneider has said that the team has been in contact with Chancellor and his agent, and has stated that there is “no animosity” towards Chancellor.
The Seahawks’ (at least public) stance is that this is how they have to do business to remain a championship-caliber team.
Smith signed with the Colts as an undrafted rookie on May 5 after a four-year career at Clemson in which he recorded 182 tackles and four interceptions.
The proposal written by Anderson, if accurate, goes beyond turning a $100,000 bonus Chancellor could earn this season into an up-front guarantee.
“I support him in whatever he’s doing”, Sherman said “Whenever you take a stand like this, you don’t get a lot of support from fans because the fans feel like, ‘You know about honoring contracts.'”.
Especially for the secondary, whose attention and respect he always has even amongst the strong personalities throughout it. That’s one of the skills Shead is trying to pick up, crucial for someone who’s not a full-time safety. Thomas is expected to start his conditioning and return to game form by the third or fourth preseason game. In that regard, he is preparing as if he, not Chancellor, will be starting when Seattle’s season begins September 13 in St. Louis. “I think it’s just a bummer for everybody involved in the situation”, Schneider told hosts Rich Gannon and Bruce Murray.
“We all miss him, “ Schneider said about the Chancellor situation”.
