‘Descendants’ Premiere Surges to 10.5 Million Viewers in Early DVR
Another 6.2 million people watched reruns of “Descendants” on either Saturday morning or Sunday night, Nielsen said.
Well, now the movie is being turned into an animated short-form series called Descendants Wicked World that will premiere on September 18 on the network – which means fun adventures will play in between other programming.
Saturday’s “Descendants” encore also placed first among cable shows in kids 2-11 (1.5 million viewers), kids 6-11 (1.2 million) and tweens 9-14 (1.0 million).
Fans of Disney’s “Descendants” can further immerse themselves in the idyllic world of Auradon through “School of Secrets“, a 23-part short-form series told through the eyes of the students at Auradon Prep in the days leading up to the arrival of Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay, the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains.
Disney Channel surpassed Nickelodeon by record margins in Total Viewers (+30% – 1.552 million vs. 1.194 million, tied week of 6/22/15) and Tweens 9-14 (+162% – 568,000 vs. 217,000), was ahead by double digits for the 22nd-consecutive week in Kids 6-11 (+74% – 592,000 vs. 340,000) and for the 7th week running in Kids 2-11 (+22% – 753,000 vs. 618,000). The three Disney Channel telecasts reached roughly 15.5 million unique viewers, including 6.1 million kids 2-11 and 4.9 million adults 18-49). On the WATCH Disney Channel app, “Descendants” has also posted 1.8 million video views since July 24. The series introduces new characters into the mix and features the voice talents of Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Mitchell Hope, Brenna D’Amico, Sarah Jeffery and Dianne Doan.
The story, from director and choreographer Kenny Ortega of the “High School Musical” franchise, is an original tale featuring reinvented classic Disney characters in a modern story.
