Mourinho signs new 4-year deal with Chelsea
Chelsea say manager Jose Mourinho has signed a new four-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2019.
Arsene Wenger said that Arsenal were guilty of “not respecting the basics” after watching his side slump to a surprise 2-0 defeat by West Ham United in their Premier League opener.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has agreed a four-year deal to remain at the helm until the end of the 2018/19 season.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t get the rub of the green today”, Norwich coach Alex Neil said.
Wenger moved to strengthen the squad with the £10million summer addition of veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech, and Arsenal continue to be linked with a big-money bid for Real Madrid’s France global forward Karim Benzema.
“You have to know you have one player less and when you go to the pitch to assist a player you must be sure the player has a serious problem”.
“Of course there were periods when we had to defend well, but you’d expect that at a place like this against a really good team. Let’s try to be a good team and let’s try to be here in March, April speaking to you about the possibility of winning something“.
Wenger did concede that Chelsea will start as the title favourites and the Frenchman highlighted the importance of making a strong start after spluttering early form left them out of the race well before Christmas last season.
It doesn’t matter that Swansea had three times as many shots on goal or that both Chelsea goals were a bit soft.
“We care, but the reality is the first match I don’t think has a outcome for the rest of the season”, a relaxed Mourinho told reporters on Friday.
Lukasz Fabianski kept out Eden Hazard’s effort at his near post before Radamel Falcao came on as a late substitute but neither side could come up with a victor, with Chelsea at least ensuring no team has ever lost its first game of a Premier League season as reigning champion.
It is no secret that the champions have been trying to strengthen their defence, with Everton’s John Stones a target. And there are other people in football who, if they could, they would have a press conference every day.
“If the club is happy, I am happy“.
On the penalty and sending off, Monk added: “From where I was sat it is what it is”.
