Four Dead After Plane Crash in Franklin County
State police say a civilian plane has crashed in the Adirondack Mountains, killing four people aboard. They were notified that a plane had gone down around 6:30 p.m. State Police were also assisted at the scene by New York State Encon Police and New York Forest Rangers, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Office of Emergency Services and local airport personnel.
Troopers and investigators who responded to the crash found the plane completely destroyed. Investigators will look into the pilot’s experience, the plane’s maintenance record, interview witnesses and go over the weather at the time of the crash.
Officials have released the name of a man who drowned this week while swimming off Sandy Hook.
The agency said a preliminary report on the crash would be completed in the next 10 days.
Sergeant Megan Zabel said officers were called to an area near a convalescent home on Friday night where they confronted a suspect and shot him dead.
The crash site was in the woods on property owned by Paul Smiths College.
National Transportation Safety Board senior investigator Robert Gretz tells reporters the plane crashed shortly after takeoff, but it’s not yet known what went wrong.

The Adirondack Regional Airport is about an hour from Plattsburgh and offers daily commercial flights to Boston.
