Google Maps iOS update brings night mode
Google Maps for Android already has these features, but for iOS users who still can not stand Apple’s own mapping product, they’re surely a welcome addition. You’ve likely pulled out your smartphone and hit up the Google Maps app, or asked Google Now or Siri to provide turn-by-turn navigation instructions to get you back on the right road.
Have you ever been in the dark and squirmed your eyes at the screen of your phone if the device did not adapt its luminosity to the darkness?
Google has revealed a new update for the iOS versions of its Maps tool, including a new night mode so you can see routes more easily in the dark.
Google Maps on Android has had this night mode for several years now, and it’s actually kind of surprising that it took Google this long to port the feature to iOS.
“It’s a small but handy update that should make Google Maps more useable for people with iPhones”, reported The Verge. Chief among those is a Night mode, which swaps the glare of the usual white accents for altogether darker hues.
The switch to a darker schematic color will be working based on your phone’s time, not the luminosity around it. Meaning that Night Mode will not switch itself on when you’re in a darkened room in the afternoon.
In turn, Google Maps has raised the stakes, now equipping its system with information on whether a particular location is too crowded or busy so users can avoid it.
However, it is not a major enhancement, it primarily includes a whole lot of new and interesting features like to be able to tag places to see them on your map and the search suggestions that allow you to edit the captions of your uploaded photos to Google Maps.
