Top Gear’s Clarkson, Hammond and May Sign Amazon Deal
But Amazon has confirmed a deal with Top Gear’s former presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May to create a new auto show exclusively for its streaming service.
The show has yet to be named, but London Evening Standard newspaper reports the deal sees a minimum of three series and that an Amazon insider calls the move a “significant investment”. Amazon produced third series of the Victorian crime drama launched in November 2014 to critical and customer acclaim; a fourth season of the show is now in production.
Richard added: “Amazon? Oh yes”.
Speaking today about the news, 55-year-old Jeremy said: “I feel like I’ve climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship.”
“We have become part of the new age of smart TV”.
“Our approach is to give programme makers creative freedom to be innovative and make the shows they want to make”. Oh yes. I have already been there.
Since Jeremy Clarkson was sensationally sacked from the BBC and Richard Hammond and James May followed him out of the door, the three gents have reportedly been in the centre of an enormous bidding war.
Amazon has been making a strong push into media streaming with its Amazon Prime Video subscription service that costs £79 (US $125, INR 8000) per year in countries where it is available.
“We’re all really excited”.
Chris Evans has taken over as the main host of the Top Gear on the BBC. “Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our groundbreaking original shows”.
Clarkson, Hammond and May left the BBC after Clarkson caused a storm of controversy after apparently punching one of the show’s producers because he wasn’t presented with a steak dinner after a day’s filming.
Top Gear is one of the most popular TV shows in the world, with an estimated global viewership of 350 million people.
