Plane engine briefly ignites at airport, no injuries
An American Airlines plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Philadelphia worldwide Airport after the report of an engine fire.
The plane was making ready to taxi to the runway at Nashville global Airport in Tennessee when the pilot switched on the engine that immediately burst into flames.
There were no injuries.
The plane was towed back to the gate and passengers were taken to another aircraft. “Technicians are evaluating the CRJ-200 aircraft and customers have been reaccommodated on alternate flights”, said spokesman Michael Thomas.
“Within five to 10 seconds the fire went out on its own”.
There were 50 passengers and three crewmembers on the flight, according to Delta. “It extinguished pretty quickly and some emergency personnel arrived”, said Jason Taylor, a University of Utah professor.
“No one heard anything”, passenger Phil Cobucci told the newspaper.
Sumrall said that the plane was up and running again within the hour. “You don’t often see fires on planes”.
The plane was being moved to the gate so people could board.
