Zimbabwe seeks extradition for Walter Palmer, American dentist who killed
By now you’ve heard of Walter Palmer. We want him tried in Zimbabwe because he violated our laws. She did not explain the 500,000 but there are online petitions demanding Palmers extradition.I have already consulted with the authorities within the police force who are responsible for arresting the criminal. Palmer shot the beloved animal in Zimbabwe with a crossbow.
“Unfortunately, it was too late to apprehend the foreign poacher as he had already absconded to his country of origin”, Muchinguri said.
The incident has prompted backlash against the dentist both in his hometown – people have left scathing notes and a memorial to Cecil at his office doors – and in social media.
The question remains as to whether or not the American government will cooperate with Zimbabwe’s request to extradite Palmer – once they actually find him.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service are also investigating the circumstances of the lion’s death, and said Friday on Twitter that it was working with a representative of Palmer.
Two Zimbabweans, a professional hunter and a private farm owner, accused of involvement in Palmer’s hunt, appeared in court Tuesday for illegal poaching.
Investigations indicate the killing of Cecil was illegal because the landowner “was not allocated a lion on his hunting quota for 2015″, said a statement from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. “We’ve made repeated attempts to try and get in contact with him”.
Of all the weird things that have happened to Mathew Palmer in his life, “being confused for a lion killer in Africa and being harassed in the middle of the night probably tops the list”, he said.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, he said he realized Cecil was protected only after the lion’s death.
Apparently, “Jericho” the next male in line, will promptly kill every lion cub sired by Cecil without so much as a chorus of Hakuna Matata – something to do with establishing a new and stronger bloodline.
“That was taken with the client’s camera, so I don’t have access to it, and quite frankly, I would never ever give it out to anybody if I had it”, Bronkhorst said.
“I have not been contacted by authorities in Zimbabwe or in the US about this situation, but will assist them in any inquiries they may have”, he added.
“One can conclude with confidence that Dr Palmer, being an American citizen, had a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the USA”, Ms Muchinguri added.
The animal’s remains were later found with the help of a tracking collar, which the lion was wearing as part of a wildlife research funded by Oxford University. Cecil, wounded and limping, was pursued for almost two days before finally being killed.
Palmer’s dental practice in Minnesota has been the scene of protests, with the crowds leaving stuffed toys of lions, tigers and monkeys outside the building.
