Runaway garbage leaves behind path of destruction
A runaway garbage truck left some New Brighton residents with costly repairs after it crashed into multiple vehicles.
Surveillance video captured a runaway garbage truck go for a unsafe drive in Pennsylvania.
“I was shocked”, he said. “There could have been lives lost”. You can see two Waste Management workers chase after the truck, but were nowhere close to catching it. The garbage truck came to a stop after taking out about five cars.
Afterward, she said she could only think of “how insane it was”, and “how tragic it could have been”.
Josh Ridenour’s 6-year-old niece was playing on the sidewalk 20 minutes before the destructive accident happened.
The brakes then “disengaged” and the truck began to roll “driverless”, hitting the bumper of another auto, which then hit four more cars before the fifth vehicle was pushed sideways, stopping the domino-effect, police said.
The unmanned truck smashed into several cars which all belonged to one family.
“We have not heard from them, not at all”, she said.
Lisa Ferguson, whose camera caught the incident, said she was out thousands of dollars because of the crash.
At Waste Management’s office, no one would speak on camera, but a spokeswoman said the crash is under investigation.
Since Friday, Ferguson’s family has been contacted by waste management and its insurance company about repairing the damage.
