Mets’ David Wright Set To Begin Minor League Rehab Assignment Monday
Wright (back) will begin his rehab assignment Monday, serving as the designated hitter for High-A St. Lucie, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he expects David Wright (back) to begin a rehab assignment on Monday. That time, Wright had 21 at-bats over six games with the Florida State League club. 333 with one home run and four RBIs.
Who was the best first baseman in Mets history? He subsequently has been sidelined by spinal stenosis in his lower back. Acquiring Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe from the Atlanta Braves provided the Mets with insurance in case Wright was unable to return this season. His bat will protect sluggers like Duda and Cespedes if he hits second and will make pitchers reconsider their approach of going after certain guys if a weak spot in the top half of the order is missing. The lower back pain setback has kept Wright in Los Angeles wile undergoing physical therapy but the veteran finally completed five consecutive days of baseball activity Saturday.
A lot will depend on how healthy Wright is when eligible to play, but even so, all signs are pointing to a quick return for the Mets captain.
