Jeb Bush’s Planned Parenthood stumble draws Clinton attack
The former Florida governor raised the issue on Tuesday in an appearance at the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, where he backed the as-of-now unsuccessful efforts in Congress to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood.
“The argument against this is, well … it’s a war on women and you’re attacking women’s health issues”, Bush said.
On Monday, Senate Democrats blocked a Republican proposal to defund Planned Parenthood, although some GOP senators have vowed to find other ways to strip the organization of the more than 0 million in federal funding it receives to help run around 700 health clinics.
Bush has supported defunding Planned Parenthood since the recent scandal about the organization’s handling of aborted fetal tissue.
Bush, a former governor of Florida, said the federal government should stop financing Planned Parenthood. From repealing Obamacare and replacing it with Apple Watches (something terrific, for sure), to phasing out Medicare in its entirety, you’ll be hard pressed to find any government health program that Bush hasn’t made decidedly non-moderate threats against.
As the first presidential candidate debate nears, 2016 hopefuls are continuing to point out their competitor’s differences, and Planned Parenthood’s funding has been at center stage in the last week. “Abortion should not be funded by the government”, he continued, apparently unaware that tax dollars don’t go to fund abortion.
It’s not my biggest problem with Jeb Bush, but one of the issues with his candidacy is that he is badly out of shape as a candidate.
Democrats weren’t convinced by Bush’s mea culpa.
A memo Benenson sent to reporters on Wednesday focused on immigration, the economy, women’s health, and gay rights Â- underscoring the coalition Democrats believe will get them to the White House.
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush is drawing fire from both, democrats and pro-choice activists for a jumbled up comment regarding women’s healthcare. He called for a halt to the $500 million in federal health care dollars that flow to Planned Parenthood to pay largely for low-income women’s health services.
Not surprisingly to anyone slightly conscious, Jeb’s backtracking appears to be no more than an obvious acquiesce to the immediate barrage of criticism and backlash he received for his wide-sweeping statements.
He has since said he misspoke.
The federal funding he’s referring to comes from Medicaid reimbursements for women who choose Planned Parenthood as well as Title X family planning funds, and when you take it away and redirect it elsewhere-as Texas tried to do-it doesn’t work.
However his feedback about cash for ladies’s well being left Bush and his marketing campaign cleansing up his remarks simply hours later.
