Kahn: Schweinsteiger sale right
Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn believes that Bastian Schweinsteiger will have to quickly adapt to Manchester United’s style of play to succeed at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old, who signed for the Red Devils last month for a reported £14m fee, has spoken to club captain Wayne Rooney about sharing the festival experience with his new teammates.
Kahn sees the transfer differently, however, and can relate with Bayern for selling while they had the chance to do so because he was not likely to be a regular for them this season.
Schweinsteiger came off the bench for his official Manchester United debut on Saturday, replacing Michael Carrick in the 60th minute of a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in his side’s Premier League opener.
His departure from Bayern Munich split opinion in Germany with Pep Guardiola claiming he hasn’t been fully fit for years.
“He will have to go an extremely high pace, and thus could relatively soon run into problems, should he not return to being in the best physical shape”.
“I certainly don’t think Schweinsteiger would have been suited to being a back-up player”, Kahn added.
According to the Metro, Schweinsteiger has invited his Man United teammates to join him in Bavaria for the annual Oktoberfest – 16-day festival celebrating (and consuming) beer in all of its forms.
“With that in mind, this decision is understandable”.
