Zayn Malik: One Direction’s new single is ‘sick’
Late last night (or early morning UK time), the foursome debuted a new song called “Drag Me Down“, their first official release since Zayn Malik’s departure to make #realmusic with RCA Records.
There has been no comment from One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan as of the moment.
He even tweeted a launch type his personal account, saying, “Little bit of a shock!”
This new One Direction single, despite what the name (“Drag Me Down”) might suggest, does not appear to be about Zayn in any explicit way, however. One Direction performed onstage at the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The band dropped the song on iTunes and Spotify worldwide with zero promo.
Zayn Malik tweeted a photo of him signing a solo deal with RCA. To celebrate, new single “Drag Me Down” made its live debut. However, “Drag Me Down” also teeters upon an age-old theme for pop groups: fan appreciation.
Several fans raised their eyebrows and have speculated that the surprise release of 1D’s new track was intended to steal the spotlight from their former bandmate.
He quit the boyband earlier because he wants to be a “normal 22-year-old”.
With a new album scheduled for Zayn Malik, release date is yet to be discussed but fans expect the release to come next year.
Sources close to One Direction confirm that the boys are all working on their own solo projects as split rumors heat up.
