Fremont Police K9 Found Safe After Friday Night Escape
A missing police dog is safe after a massive search in the South Bay.
The Oakland Tribune reports (http://bayareane.ws/1L1rIpG ) that 16-month-old Niko was reunited with his handler Sunday after escaping his secured yard in San Jose Saturday night.
UPDATE (11:44 a.m): San Jose Police has located the dog. He was wearing a metal collar but no name tag.
A young police K9 somehow got out of his yard overnight, prompting an hours-long search Sunday morning.
Niko looks to be in good health, police say, but he’s scheduled to be checked out just to make sure. “It was wonderful”. “He woke up a little bit later, went outside, and the dog was gone”. Still, Niko was found almost 4 miles away from the Willow Glen neighborhood where he lives.
Niko is Fremont Police Department’s newest K9, and has been with the force for a couple of weeks, officials said. Police did not say when he would resume his duties.
