Yankees fan throws Bautista home run ball back, hits Brett Gardner
Most of the talk has been about the new additions to the Toronto Blue Jays. Their rotation at least has been performing fairly well of late – Severino, CC Sabathia, Nathan Eovaldi and Tanaka are all coming off solid starts – so perhaps that provides some reason for optimism.
Between Drake and the Blue Jays, it’s been a pretty good couple of weeks in Toronto. There are 10 games remaining between the two top teams in the east including three next weekend up in Toronto.
Toronto manager John Gibbons spoke for the entire clubhouse when he said, “There’s no question those trades gave us a jolt”. “But when you come in and win the first two, your goal is the win the next game”. Still it is hard to comprehend how the Yankees, who recently scored 90-runs in 10 games managed to get one run across the plate the past three days. The hosts managed just three hits and three walks in 6-1/3 innings against right-hander Marco Estrada (10-6), who routinely painted the outside corner and expanded the strike zone against the frustrated Yankees hitters.
“We feel confident and we did a great job this weekend, we held them to a run”. The goal bonanza over the last three games is one thing but what’s more impressive about the Caps is the way they’ve changed the team’s entire structure since the start of the season.
Tanaka doesn’t just have to win; he needs to smother the Jays and restore the Bombers’ sagging confidence.
The Toronto Blue Jays are red-hot on both sides of the ball and don’t look like they are pulling up any time soon.
CHICAGO (AP) – Jake Arrieta pitched four-hit ball into the eighth inning, and the Cubs beat the Giants for a four-game sweep of the defending world champions.
The first incident came in the fourth inning after Jose Bautista blasted a homer to left field. But it was especially painful for all-star left fielder Brett Gardner, who got hit on or near his head with a home run ball thrown back onto the field by one of his team’s fans. LaTroy Hawkins recorded the final two outs of the seventh, Aaron Sanchez stranded a runner in the eighth and Roberto Osuna tossed a hitless ninth for his 10th save in 11 opportunities. He said right now he expects it to be someone currently on the staff, making RHP Bryan Mitchell and perhaps Warren the most likely candidates. “So it’s exciting to see”.
1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left on. “You can make a lot of these two games, but [winning the division] is about the next two months”.
“You never assume that it’s going to be easy”, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
Technically, Girardi is correct-the Yankees lost six in a row at one point this season.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka throws during the first inning of a baseball game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium, Sunday, August 9, 2015, in New York. New York’s lineup was only able to produce the single run in Friday’s opening matchup of the three game series.
