49ers LB Aldon Smith released after recent arrest
In brief comments after posting $26,000 bail, Smith disputed he was involved in an DUI.
Coach Jim Tomsula described the team’s mood: “It was sadness”. It has nothing to do with football. And what I would like to say is, if one person out there reads this, and you’re struggling, get help.
Smith had said when camp began he was healthy and in great shape, “ready to go”. “I’m confident he’ll get all the help he needs and do what it takes to get himself ready to play again”. He will not be alone.
Antoine Bethea and Eric Reid echoed Boldin’s statements, saying they hadn’t heard anything about a fight between Smith and Kaepernick until a reporter told them about it after practice Friday.
Later Friday afternoon, the Santa Clara Police department released more information about the incident. Head coach Tomsula weighed in on Smith’s progress by saying, “He has been turning his life around, he is in that process”. “Officers administered a field sobriety test to Smith” and was arrested. Denver Broncos defensive star Von Miller, who had a history of legal issues before coming clean, told the Denver Post that he intended to be there for Smith and called him “my brother”.
I wish it had not come to this, but I still find the whole situation really fascinating. I want everybody to understand this wasn’t a DUI. “As far as everything is concerned, it will work out how it’s supposed to work out”. “That’s all”. He’s scheduled to be arraigned October 6.
According to Pro Football Talk, Smith has been released by the 49ers following his arrest on an alleged DUI and it comes after Smith missed time last season while in rehab.
Aside from Lemon, Aaron Lynch and Ahmad Brooks should be tapped to play a bigger role for the team with Smith out of the squad – with the two players combining for 12 sacks past year.
Baalke declined to state whether he and Smith were at the 49ers facility or at Smith’s nearby apartment, which is where Smith got arrested Thursday night for an alleged hit-and-run, drunken-driving accident.
Smith broke out onto the scene in his first two seasons, as he put up 14 sacks and 19.5 sacks over those years for the Niners. Trent Baalke, the S.F. 49ers general manager, announced earlier this week that prior to this fifth arrest the football team had hoped to re-sign him.
“Aldon’s like any young player, he’s growing up, he’s maturing”.
As expected, Kaepernick denied the reports and said that they were merely rumors that tend to link him with some of his teammates present off-field problems.
