Panthers QB Newton involved in scuffle at training camp
Added the Charlotte Observer, Newton said, “Hit me like that again”.
The fight was broken up, but there’s still plenty of ill will.
Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton (1) throws a pass under pressure from Panthers’ Wes Horton (96) during the NFL football team’s training camp in Spartanburg, S.C., Thursday, August 6, 2015.
The photos are pretty wild. The pocket was collapsing on Newton and he fired a pass low, which Norman intercepted as he went to the ground. Newton chased Norman into the end zone, where things escalated.
Newton doesn’t seem to care for getting picked off, and he certainly doesn’t get any warm and fuzzies when said the guy doing the picking runs his mouth about it, especially when it’s a teammate. “That’s stupid”.
The Panthers and Newton in the offseason agreed on a $103.8 million contract extension through 2020. The Panthers can not afford to have him get hurt. But not every training camp fight features a franchise quarterback at the center of the storm. Normally those words are just talk, but this time it turned nasty. Norman then pushed Newton slightly harder and the two went at each other.
It was an intense practice from the beginning.
Newton and Norman had to be separated by almost a dozen teammates Players can be heard yelling “get them off” as they separate the pair.
Cam reportedly shoved Norman out of bounds, eliciting a retaliatory push that took the altercation from a scuffle to an all-out brawl.
