Wolf joins Hall of Fame greats today (AUDIO)
Ron Wolf, the man who brought Brett Favre to Green Bay, beat the quarterback to Canton.
Wolf’s imprint on pro football was profound and lasting-five current NFL general managers, including Ted Thompson of the Packers, worked for Wolf in Green Bay.
Wolf acknowledged that he has a lot of people who were successful as a result of his presence, be it players he drafted or scouts who worked under him, and he wished them all the best and said that he was very proud of all they’ve been able to accomplish.
“To think that Ronnie Wolf from New Freedom, Penn., who graduated 101st in a class of 83 from Susquehannock High School is being inducted into this fabled Hall is remarkable”, Wolf said in his second enshrinement speech.
Wolf can be inducted into the Corridor as a contributor Saturday.
Former basic supervisor Ron Wolf stated Friday his remark one night time earlier to Roger Goodell relating to the commissioner’s dealing with of the case was honest.
Two others acknowledged by Wolf were Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells, “for his counsel and friendship”, and marketing agent Mike Ornstein, a one-time Raider executive, “for his efforts on my behalf”.
The Packers went on to win one Super Bowl and appear in another with Wolf at the helm. “Michael Jordan said that, but the same applies to professional football”, Wolf said.
“Well, you come up to my office”, Wolf said. It is a game of human will and athletic grace.
Wolf joined the Packers in 1991 and led the franchise’s turn-around. The moves helped the Packers secure their first Super Bowl title in 29 years.
Still, Eliot Wolf best summed up his father’s passion for football when he spoke of recently stopping by his house only to catch him watching tape of a 1948 game involving the Chicago Cardinals. In my opinion – and this and $8 dollars gets you Starbucks – it’s probably where the Hall of Fame should be because of what it represents and what it means.
