Two guerrillas, gunned down in Kashmir
Two militants and an Army jawan were killed and two other jawans injured in a series of gunbattles between the Army and militants close to the Line of Control in J&K’s Kupwara district since Saturday. A fierce encounter took place between militants and security forces in which a soldier, Bashir Ahmed, lost his life.
He further said, “There was no immediate report of any casuality on either side”.
Among three injured two has been identified as Havaldar Rajender Singh (33) and Lias Naik Kowal Ram (30).
Official sources told GNS that Indian Army’s 20 RR deployed near the fence at Bateeja and Taya posts intercepted a group of militants believed to be infiltrators.
Gunfights started in Tangdhar and Keran sectors of the LoC in Kupwara district during infiltration attempts by guerrillas on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The Army said the operation is still underway but is slowed down because the area is under dense forest cover.
The gun battle was going on when the last reports came in, the army official said.
