West Brom sign Rondon
West Brom have announced the signing of striker Salomon Rondon from Zenit St Petersburg for a fee in the region of £12 million.
The forward is believed to be in the country with Albion targeting the player, Press Association Sport understands.
But there is no suggestion from inside Albion that Rondon’s arrival could see Saido Berahino leave despite Spurs wanting him.
According to reports, West Brom are willing to listen to offers for Brown Ideye – a £10m signing from Dynamo Kyiv last summer – who managed just seven goals in all competitions for the club last season.
And despite Rondon’s excellent scoring record, Pulis reckons there is more to come from his new star, even if it does take a little time for him to settle in the Midlands.
Victor Anichebe may also be surplus to requirements at the Baggies after an injury-plagued two years at the club.
He scored 25 goals in 67 games before making the move to Russian Federation to join firstly Rubin Kazan, and then Zenit, where he worked under former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Rondon said on the club’s official website: “I am very happy to be here”. I can’t wait to be with the other players and to play.
“That’s what is important for a player, what you take into account – and there are expectations of me”.
Head coach Tony Pulis said: “We’re delighted to add Serge to our options”.
Gnabry is unlikely to face Manchester City on Monday, though, as he lacks match fitness.
