Gunman seriously injured in Ferguson shooting

The man has since been hospitalized in critical, unstable condition, and was undergoing surgery, Chief Belmar said. But the suspect’s father says two girls who were with his son told him he was unarmed and “running for his life” when he was shot.

Following the burst of gunfire, the mood in Ferguson changed from a day of peaceful protest to renewed frustration, Mr. Gassoway said.

Harris told News 4 that Harris Jr. was in an intensive care unit after being shot in several places.

None of them were seriously injured. All four have been put on standard administrative leave.

The chief said the gun used by the suspect was a semi-automatic 9 mm stolen from Cape Girardeau, Mo., last year.

The shooters “were criminals; they weren’t protesters”, he said. “There are a lot of emotions”. “We can not continue, we can not talk about the good things that we have been talking about if we are prevented form moving forward with this kind of violence”.

His shooting and subsequent riots led to a summer of protests in the St. Louis suburb and launched a national discussion on race and policing in the U.S.

On Monday, St. Louis County prosecutors announced 10 felony charges against Harris. Attendants observed 4½ minutes of silence to signify the 4½ hours Brown’s body lay on the street after he was shot past year. Her condition is unknown.

The state of emergency came as police arrested 56 protesters who staged a demonstration blocking the entrance to a federal courthouse in downtown St. Louis.

The Ferguson Action Council is a coalition of organizations that have united in protests.
