Hertha Berlin team bus shot at by motorcyclist
The club posted a photo on Twitter showing the bus with the impact of a bullet which smashed a hole in the windscreen at the level of the driver’s head.
Hertha’s director of football, Michael Preetz, added: “We are deeply shocked and hope that the perpetrators will be caught”.
Hertha tweeted pictures of the bus on Sunday evening and called for any witnesses to come forward and provide information to the police.
The club said the motorcyclist had overtaken the bus and threatened the driver “with his fist”, before pointing a gun at him and the bus. The shot did not penetrate the windscreen. This was an attack on life and limb and not a trivial matter.
The bus was headed to a train station to pick up the team as they traveled to face second-division side Arminia Bielefeld in a German Cup match tomorrow.
Bielefeld police are investigating the incident and were taking extra precautions to protect the Hertha players, the Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported.
